Comparison Between the "Celebrations of Independence of Quito" and the "Celebrations of Independence from United States".

  • Origin of the Celebration. 

Celebrations of Independence of Quito.

 These celebrations do memory of the history of the city and remember the ancestral origins of Quito, as well as the process of the Spanish conquest, which was the Foundation of the city of "San Francisco de Quito".
However something very curious of these festivities is that during the Republican period this date passed unnoticed, on December 6th it was not celebrated and a day was common in the calendar. In schools and colleges it remembered her only as a civic date.
In 1956, it is when the idea of a group of journalists it decides to promote the celebrations to the city, its main ideology was the journalist of the newspaper "Latest news" Cesar Larrea; that work, together with the then City Mayor Jaime del Castillo and the company distillery that produced the famous "Paico"; they decided to undertake the first serenades and celebrations in the street "La Ronda".

It is a national holiday which is celebrated the 4th of July; this was the day on which the Declaration of independence was signed in the year 1775; this statement is a document in which United States separates formally from the British Empire. 
In the same writing this printed the date of its issuance and signature. Since this date is to taken as a patriotic day and were to begun to celebrate it.

There is wide variety of gastronomy in this celebration but a beverage more representative is the famous "Canelazo"; it is an alcoholic drink that as his name itself says it carries cinnamon, naranjilla, panela or sugar  and brandy.
This may be accompanied by the Quito cuisine dishes such as: 
  • Hornado.
  • Quesadillas.
  • Chicha.
  • Llapingachos.
  • Quimbolitos.
  • Humitas.
  • Fritada.
  • Other delicacies.

Celebrations of Independence from United States.

Families and friends usually gather and have field days; they prepare all kinds of roasts and barbecues and drinking beer. 
 Burgers, ribs, chicken, salads according to the season, s'mores and all kinds of snacks are foods that the GBP consumed during these festivities. 
 A very typical of this date salad is the "Layer Dip" containing peppers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cheese, chicken and spicy tomato sauce.

Celebrations of Independence of Quito.

Characters icons more representative and recognized in these festivities are the "Chulla Quiteño" and the "Quiteña Bonita".
The "Chulla Quiteño" was a prototype of the ancient city of Quito, which was original, unique, educated, unrepeatable, formal, talkative and a Bohemian:this solia walk impeccable demonstrated a so-called 'smart poverty' in some way.
Their dress consists of a black suit, a flower in the lapel or a scarf, vest, white shirt, tie or bowtie and a polished black shoes; sometimes accompanied by a cane. It was a very cult character, recognized by its picardy and its easy way of falling in love to the Quito.
The "Quiteña Bonita" is representative of the beauty of the capital women character; representing qualities possessing the Quito women is firm, strong safe, brave and with a very loving and generous heart. His outfit consists of a dress with traits of the time colony, an umbrella of embroidery and carries a shawl.
In many parades, it is also possible to see a lot of costumes from different parts of the country.

Celebrations of Independence from United States.

Three colors predominate in the most representative of this holiday dress: balco, blue, red. The costume more representative of this date is that of the "Uncle Sam"; This is the personification of the Government of the United States.

There is great variety of music especially in our fashion shows as you can notice the large number of ethnic groups and people who want them to represent that they participate in these parades; however, to my way of thinking the music that represents quitos parties are the "Parade", "Stop" and "San Maltese Knights". Traditional music, music that enriches us.

Traditional dance in festivals music of quito, these are the songs heard during the celebrations of December.
The founding of Quito festivities are held with a wide variety of activities and events where you can not miss the traditional music.
The Quito music lights festivals in different neighborhoods, plazas and parks of the city.
The quiteños tend to gather in the streets Dec. 5 to celebrate the Carita de Dios to the rhythm of music, canelazos and joy.
Also there are lot of don music festivals from you can enjoy national and international music.

Celebrations of Independence from United States.


On the day of the independence of the United States, Americans prepare the celebrations which the music stops not being present.

Song they most often hear is the anthem of your country, however there are many songs that Americans hear the 4th of July.

It is a concert in the gardens of the Capitol that are often involved the National Symphony Orchestra and national pop groups dintintos that perform patriotic songs. After the concert, all families and friends gather to witness the typical and impressive castles of fireworks carried out in all the points of the nation.
